Bill Gates Sells Image Bank with Controversial Tank Man Pictures to Chinese Firm

Thanks to Bill gates, a treasure chest of more than 200 million historic and artistic images are under control of a Chinese firm.

The Microsoft founder announced Friday the sale of Corbis images assets to Unity Glory, a division of Visual China Group.

Among the trove are images sensitive to the ruling Communist Party’s view of China’s own history including some taken during the Tiananmen Square Massacre, particularly those of the famous Tank Man.

However, the firm has announced a deal with Getty Images for global distribution of the content.

“The transaction strengthens our dominant position in China’s image industry, enhances our core competence in the global high-end image market, and marks a significant milestone on our journey of globalization,” said CEO Amy Jun Liang..
